Prosperitas Microfinanzas - Colombia
Prosperitas Microfinanzas is an up and coming microfinance institution based out of Bogota that was launched in 2009. It was born out of the passion of three Colombian born business school students Marcela Torres, Francisco Noguera and Santiago Alvarez working at a strategic consulting firm in Bogota. They shared the concern of combining business with the relief of many needs in the region and inspired by the book Banker to the Poor by Muhammad Yunus decided to use microfinance as a vehicle to contribute to economic and social development of low-income entrepreneurs and communities. Milan Patel, a volunteer from the UK with a background in data integration with front-office systems for asset management firms, who's travelled to Colombia for several months to roll out Mifos.
